Description
This monoprinted artwork on paper was created in three stages. Beginning with a monoprint using a pressed leaf sprig and then a second monoprint of a leaf silhouette, revealing part of the first monoprint within the silhouette. The third layer is a monoprinted illustration of a woman embodying a tree, with the broken lines filled in using a rich brown chalk pastel. The rich brown colour beautifully contrasts the muted mauve and pastel green.
This illustration in this print was inspired by the tarot card I pulled at the studio that day; the Queen of Pentacles. She is a mother to the earth, a grounded and nurturing feminine energy I strongly identify with. I thought about how her strength is like that of a tree, unwavering and calm, and how when I imagine myself as a tree with roots growing into the ground from my toes, I feel balanced and strong.
This artwork would look stunning framed in a glass floating frame.
