In this vibrant painting Sky’s illustration of a Great Hornbill soars up high across a vivid green landscape. Hornbills rely on tall dense forestry to nest and most pairs will mate for life, staying within a fixed territory. Of the many hornbill varieties thirty are threatened by extinction. One of the biggest threats to hornbills is destruction of habitat, but some species are also poached for their bills to be used as ornamental sculpture, peddled as ‘red ivory’.
This painting has been created using a combination of mixed media including oil paint, acrylic paint, collage, pastel, graphite, gold leaf, and image transfers.
