Created using a combination of acrylic paint, oil paint, texture mediums, and pastel.

If you look closely, you’ll find beauty in the decay, and fungi everywhere.

This year my artwork has become heavily led by the seasonal changes around me. As my inspiration has become more and more attuned to my direct experience of nature, I’ve felt myself grow more and more emotionally connected to the painting process. I believe the outcome is my most authentic, organic and energetic work yet. Each time I step out into nature, I take great care to notice the colours, the textures, the smells and the energy of the places I visit throughout the year. Absorbing all of this incredible beauty everyday grounds me and gives me hope and perspective even when life has felt difficult and disordered. So these paintings don’t only communicate my experience of nature throughout the seasons, but also my personal experience and undulating emotions during that time period.

‘Ode to Autumn’ was painted in the autumn 2024 between October – November, although it was a painting that went through several stages and wasn’t finished until I revisited it in February 2025. Autumn is a very inspiring time of year for me. Taking time to study forest floors and stare up at tree trunks looking for fungi always takes me away from all the noise of life and brings me joy no matter what else is going on. The colours of the changing leaves and gentle coolness of this time year feels so comforting and calming. This painting celebrates all of the joyful energy autumn brings with it, welcoming in and embracing change.
