Description
This experimental artwork on paper is a combination of abstract painting and a monoprint of various collected plants from my daily nature walks. The title Lichen is inspired by the earthy turquoise colour of the painted background subtly graduating from pale to dark within a masked border. The oil based ink used to print the plants in this piece creates a strong contrast and variety of abstract textures. The print didn’t go exactly as I’d planned it but the outcome still has a lot of beauty and interest within it’s imperfections. The colours especially are very reminiscent of woodlands; tree bark, moss, lichen, fungi and ferns – all huge sources of inspiration in my work.
Framing behind glass is highly recommended. This artwork would look particularly good within a narrow mount in a natural wood frame.
Please be aware the pastels used may smudge if not handled carefully.
