Description
This expressive painting on paper was painted as part of a collection of 9 abstract pieces on paper all painted together as one larger painting. Painted in a loose and fervent style, these quick paintings convey a very strong sense of emotion and energy. Each one is one of a kind and tells a different story from the others. They’d look amazing hung up in a row as a series or a triptych.
This series of 9 is titled ‘A Stormy Interlude’ as they were painted between the several strong storms that came to the UK during winter 2024. I was between places with my work in the studio and in a very unstable place in my life as well so producing these works was a great release of feelings of turmoil and angst. Empowered by the strong energy of the winds and inspired by the movement of the trees and the raw, unapologetic nature of winter I set about painting these pieces almost with a sense of urgency and absolute necessity.
The paintings were taped to the wall as shown in the last photo which is why each one has a masked border. These masked edges are uneven and imperfect, beautifully reflecting the organic and un-precious nature of the process of painting them.
Although photographed in a poster hanger, Sky recommends framing behind glass to protect the painting properly.
