AUGUST Pinterest Board of the Month

This month I’ve chosen a beautiful botanical themed Pinterest board called Succulents + Plants by Justine Swindell.

Having recently been drawing leafy plant illustrations to add as finishing touches to my new design collection, I’m finding tropical leaves and succulents particularly inspiring at the moment.

Plus having become a home-owner for the first time this year I’m getting rather obsessed with home decor ideas and garden plants too so all the beautiful little ceramic planters also featured on this board are calling out to my interior designer side!

There’s all sorts of inspiration to take away from this board, in many different forms. With a great mix of botanical based art and illustration, creative photographs showing off stunning colour contrasts like the pink and green leaves above, and succulents planted in teacups and handmade pots dotted about too, this board is totally worth a shout out today!

If you’d like some planters similar to the black and white ones in the bottom left, head to 1220 Ceramics! She’s a lovely Bristol based ceramicist who makes very similar pots to these and can often be found at local markets like Tobacco Factory and The Frome Independent alongside myself!

JULY Pinterest Board of the Month

Whilst I’m in the midst of editing photos of my paintings to create new limited edition prints… and also working on a new design series of water birds to add to the Flight collection… Summer colours are inspiring me more than ever right now! Colour is what really fuels my passion for painting and is at the core of what I create. That and my love of birds obviously! So a Pinterest board full of beautiful satisfying colour combos just makes my heart sing basically.

This board is called COLOUR by Rebecca Jane Broome.

These three are some of my top faves, something about green is really calling to me lately. I never used to be much of a green fan but lately I’m all over it so expect to see more! I chose the board before realising Rebecca was in fact a fellow student on my textile degree, which explains her great choices of contrasting hues! The board is full of fresh nature inspired tones, many that have a summer feel perfectly suited to the hot July we’ve been having. Think dusky pinks, peachy oranges and deep botanical greens… yum.

Stay tuned for August’s board of the month! Sky x

Summer Exhibition at Grain Barge

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hanging some of my framed prints in the beautiful Bristol venue, Grain Barge. It’s the first solo exhibition I have put on for a little while so it was exciting to hang some of my newer designs for 2018 together with some older ones. The venue is a barge converted into a restaurant and bar as you may be able to guess from the name! Run by the same team as Tobacco Factory on North Street, they boast a gorgeous locally sourced menu and amazing views across Bristol marina which can be enjoyed from the glass walled bar area as well as the top deck!

The venue makes for an ideal setting for my work as it is very light filled and full of rustic charm since the interior is largely made up of reclaimed materials. Love having a natural wooden wall as a backdrop to the main grid of work shown above rather than the usual white walls I’m used to in gallery spaces.

All artwork exhibited in there is available for sale and includes nine of my giclée print designs all framed and ready to go straight on your own walls at home! If you always find it a struggle to get prints framed after buying them, this is the perfect opportunity to save yourself the hassle. The exhibition is on until August 14th so why not grab a pint in the sun, and maybe some dinner too, and have a good nosey at the show!

TOP 5… Summer Cocktails

Thought I’d just post a fun little TOP 5 feature for today. It’s a lovely sunny day here in Bristol so what better way to celebrate than with some smashing fresh and fruity Summer cocktails?! I love drinks that are refreshing and fragrant and that suits Summer perfectly. If you’re planning a BBQ or Summer garden party for the weekend then here is the perfect place to start planning how to refresh your guests.

grapefruit cucumber gin summer cocktail

GRAPEFRUIT, CUCUMBER, GIN COCKTAIL

In my opinion, nothing beats gin especially for Summer, and a gin cocktail plus cucumber? Heaven!

Passionfruit_caipirinha_summer cocktail

PASSION FRUIT, LIME CAIPIRINHA

I hadn’t tried a caipirinha featuring Brazil’s answer to rum, cachaca, until very recently but once I had there was no looking back. The lime just makes them so zesty and thirst quenching!

watermelon-papaya-rum-smoothie-summer cocktail-4

WATERMELON, PAPAYA, RUM SMOOTHIE

What’s better than a fruity rum cocktail? A fruity rum smoothie! Can we just take a moment to appreciate all the beautiful colours going on with all these delicious drinks too please?

vanilla pineapple margarita summer cocktail

VANILLA, PINEAPPLE MARGARITA

A delicious twist on this tequila and triple sec based drink. I just love fruit so much, I’m starting to think it’d be hard not to enjoy any kind of Summer cocktail at this rate. Love the unusual addition of vanilla here though.

grapefruit elderflower rosemary vodka summer cocktail

GRAPEFRUIT, ELDERFLOWER, ROSEMARY, VODKA COCKTAIL

Tried to include an even mix of alcoholic spirits in my TOP 5 list so although I’m not a fan myself, vodka often does make a good base for cocktails since it’s less flavoursome. Love the sound of this mix of tastes. I mean who doesn’t love elderflower?

That’s it for today. Perhaps a little off piste from my usual art and interiors based posts but I fancied posting something a little fun and different today in the spirit of Summer! Hopefully you’ve still enjoyed it. Besides art and wildlife, I really love cooking and creating things in the kitchen so it’s nice to share that now and then. Stay tuned for photos from Springfest – my next event this Saturday! See details here.

JUNE Pinterest Board of the Month!

Sweet Food Collection by Home Girl London

Something about this hot hot weather we’ve been having here in the UK this week has given me a serious sweet tooth. So whilst full of cravings for fruit and chocolate this Pinterest board certainly grabbed my attention! If you’re planning a Summer party, bbq, birthday shindig or a wedding reception perhaps, my June Pinterest board of the month is full of amazing and interesting desserts to fill you up with inspiration. Heck, they all look so good I’d throw a party just for the sake of making desserts like these! They’re all so beautifully decorated and photographed too, making me feel inspired even just from a design perspective. Loving all the pastel colours and organic shapes!

June Pinterest Board of the Month - Sweet Food ice cream, coconut

As usual I’ve selected a few of my faves to show you here. There’s elderflower ice cream, coconut bliss bowls, grapefruit curd and chamomile tarts and fruit topped waffles to name a few! A love fruit based desserts, especially for Summer, and there are loads of unusual and exciting combinations to feast your eyes upon here.

Tropical Paradise Exhibition

I have recently designed a new A3 print design called Caribbean Flamingo which is currently exclusively available in the Paper Arts Tropical Paradise Summer exhibition in Bristol city centre! It’s on for another two weeks until 29th June and features a wonderfully colourful and varied mix of 50 artworks. I’m very proud to have had my submission selected to be in this show in which all of the prints are available to buy either framed or unframed.

Carribean Flamingo

The new design uses an illustration I drew from a photograph taken by my dad when we visited Slimbridge Wetland Centre together so I feel particularly proud of this piece. The Paper Arts gallery is right in the centre of Broadmead here between Debenhams and Vodafone so be sure to drop in if you’re visiting Bristol!

The print will soon also be available to buy via my online shop and stockists as part of a new selection of waterbird designs I am adding to my Flight collection so watch this space for updates on that!

TOP 5… Floral Interior Products

In the spirit of Summer and spending more time outdoors, this week I’m featuring floral printed homewares! Flower designs mix so well with all sorts of interior styles and make a fantastic way to add a pop of colour and energy to a living space. So below are my favourite five floral items for the home that are available this season.Floral Interior Products

  1. Autumn Tea Towel by Whitney Elizabeth – Although technically Autumn themed I think the flower illustrations on this tea towel have enough colour and spirit to keep your kitchen feeling fresh all year round.
  2. Laburnum Cushion by Abigail Borg – I love Abigail Borg’s graphic design style and use of vibrant colour contrasted against muted tones. This floral cushion would sit well in a modern or a traditionally styled home.

  3. Flower Market Colander by MacKenzie Childs – Pretty and useful! This floral colander deserves to be given pride of place hung from a kitchen cabinet for everyone to see.

  4. Sissinghurst Castle Dinnerware by Anthropologie – You can always be sure to find lots of beautifully patterned pieces of crockery in Anthropologie. This collection of flowery tableware is my favourite from their current range, but it was hard to choose!

  5. Botanical Coaster Set by Rifle Paper Co. – These stylised floral illustrations by Anna Bond have a very pretty, summery appeal and would be the perfect way to add some pops of colour to your dining table layout.

That’s all for now, but keep up with my blog to see more of my Top 5 features every month. You can find more of my favourite interior products on my Pinterest board NICE THINGS. and shop for my own Summer themed products in my online shop here.
