TOP 5… Big Blue Mugs

I love a good mug. Who doesn’t?! In fact I’ve always said I’m unlikely to trust any Brit who doesn’t drink tea. It’s simply a staple of our diet, right?! So I’m doing a fun little TOP 5 feature this week with five favourite mugs I’ve found online today all available to order online from the UK. …And If you don’t like tea, I guess you can use them for coffee or a fancy-pants hot chocolate but you’ll have to work hard to gain my trust. 😉 I’ve picked extra big and extra pretty ones for this post because I love to have a decent sized cuppa and I love to own beautiful homewares so hopefully you’re all with me on both fronts there!

Kebaya Mug - Anthropologie

1. Kebaya Mug from Anthropologie – £12

Anthropologie have to be the queens of mug beauty. So many beautiful shapes, so many beautiful colours, ahh bliss! Love the ethnic style patterns on this one.

Ida Mug - Oliver Bonas

2. Ida Mug from Oliver Bonas – £12

The colour and textured glaze of this mug is just heavenly and they have other colours to choose from too! Techincally more of a green than blue I know, but I’d say it’s on the cusp, and this was my fave!

Indigo Drop Mug - Decorator's Notebook

3. Indigo Drop Mug from Decorator’s Notebook – £12.95

Love the unusual short and wide shape of this mug. Simply yet edgy, and it’s made fair trade so rest assured this one is a loving cup.Antique Floral Print Mug - M&S4. Antique Floral Print Mug from Marks & Spencer – £8

I couldn’t find my all time favourite mugs that I have at home on the M&S website unfortunately so perhaps they’ve stopped doing them but this one is equally lovely. A nice traditional floral on a contemporary shape, I think this is a winner for a mum gift!

Handmade Grey & White Glaze Mug - Megan Louise Ceramics

5. Handmade Ceramic Grey & White Glaze Mug by Megan Louise Ceramics – £18

So soft and organic, these handmade mugs make me think of tranquil sandy beaches. Love that there are never two quite the same with artisan items like these. Sorry I haven’t included more independent makers in this post. Like to keep a bit of variety going and keep a range of prices in these features so it’s not always easy.

That’s it for my Top 5 mugs feature today! Hope you’ve enjoyed, comment and follow below if you liked it. Next week I’ll be dedicating a post to a fellow designer-maker, stay tuned to see who it will be!

APRIL Pinterest Board of the Month

Live Beautifully by Lobster & Swan.

A new monthly feature for the blog featuring snippets from a beautiful Pinterest board of my choosing each month for you all to enjoy. This is something I used to do via Twitter and Facebook quite often but I thought why not give these boards the full glory that they deserve and bring it on over to the blog!

This month I’ve picked this gorgeous selection of interiors titled Live Beautifully, exquisitely curated by photographer and stylist Lobster & Swan. All of these homes have a very floral, country living style Spring vibe going on so I thought it an apt choice for April’s pick. There are lots of flowers, antique furnishings, distressed wood and hues of pinks, greys and sage greens going on all creating a wonderfully rustic English garden style. I’ve picked three highlights below which I particularly liked for their use of vintage vs. contemporary furnishings, pastel shades and indoor plants but check out the whole board to get really inspired!

TOP 5… Desk Accessories!

I think it’s time for a September themed shopping guide! Even for those of us who are beyond our education years and don’t have kids I feel there will always be a nostalgic ‘back to school’ essence about September that you can never really shake. Perhaps as a business owner it’s more prominent to me because it marks the end of Summer and therefore the approach of Christmas meaning I need to get organised and ready for markets for the festive season. However September makes you feel, it’s a great excuse to treat yourself to some new stationary in order to get yourself organised during Autumn! Nothing makes me feel more like being productive than a fresh new notebook or a fancy pen so I’m doing a TOP 5 desk accessories feature this week. Stationary has also been on my mind a lot lately because I’m hoping to venture into selling more stationary products myself so this seemed the perfect way to expand my research. Enjoy!

Papio Press Notebooks 1. Scandinavian Bison & Jaguar A6 Pocket Notebooks from Papio Press – These illustrated animal designs are just gorgeous and I love the colours! They come as a set; one plain, one lined, ideal!

Ceramic House Pen Holder

2. Ceramic House Pencil Holders from Vsocks on Etsy – Discovered these quirky ceramic houses only today on Etsy and I’m absolutely delighted by them. What a fantastic way to store your pens, AND they can be used as candle or utensil holders too, whatever you desire!

Vintage Ladybird Stapler

3. Vintage 70s Wooden Ladybird Stapler from Sycamore Vintage on Etsy – Love an unusual vintage find like this amazing stained wood retro stapler! It even has little string antennae! I’ve also come across a vintage orange whale stapler before so there are a few of these treasures about if you keep your eyes peeled.

Pirrip Press Notecards

4. Jam Cuts Correspondence Card Set from Pirrip Press – These screen-printed notecards are each hand-printed with random compositions so no two are the same. Love the wonderful uniqueness of this and the bold mix of colours and shapes.

Kari Herer Flora Pencil Case

5. Captured Floral Pencil Pouch by Kari Herer for Anthropologie – These photographic floral prints are just beautiful. Keep your best pens and tools nice and safe in one of these lovely pouches featuring a leather zip-pull to boot!

There you have it. Let me know which is your fave?! Or if there are any stationary products in particular you would love to see Sky Siouki selling perhaps? Notebooks are definitely on the cards so stay tuned.

TOP 5… Botanical Fabrics

Since Spring is finally approaching, this month I’m featuring five plant themed prints for the home. I’ve gotten very into botanical studies of late and think there’s a lot to be admired in the beautiful variety of leaf shapes and sizes as well as just pretty florals. Botanical prints are really on trend right now and I’m enjoying the range of fabrics featuring delicately illustrated plants that’s about at the moment. I’ve featured interior fabrics since that’s my speciality but I have to say they are some gorgeous fashion prints about too. Here are my Top 5 leafy fabrics for the home…

1. Woodland Ferns by Sanderson

Love the drama of this colourway although if it’s a bit too dark for you it is also available in paler hues. The black really brings out all the intricate details of the leaves though and would look great used to furnish seats of dining table chairs or stools.

Sanderson

2. Foliage by Shelley Steer

I love this designer’s style. You should also check out the cactus print she did for Australian brand Sanctuary Boutique Linens – gorgeous! Palm prints are so big right now, especially love the mix of dark green over pale peach pink here too.

Shelley Steer

3. Jindai by Designers Guild

Quite similar to the Sanderson design but with a slightly more handprinted feel, I love the variety of shapes and textures used here. It is available in other colours but I think the monochrome has a lovely simplicity.

Designers Guild

4. Mathilda by Abigail Borg

A bit more of a quirky, graphic print in Abigail Borg’s classic illustrated style. I love her use of line and all the delicate detail within this print. The black and white over a bright colour creates a stunning contrast. This one also comes in other colours.

Abigail Borg

5. Topical Tropical by Timorous Beasties

This one is much more of a statement print but what an incredible burst of colour and energy. The amount of detail in Timorous Beasties’ prints never ceases to amaze me, I love the contrast of scale they’ve used in this design. The directional style would be ideal for long drapes.

TOP 5… Alternative Valentine’s Gifts

Only 9 days until Valentine’s Day already and the countdown is on to find a gift for that beautiful lady or man in your life! I think most of the Valentine’s gifts you see out in the shops tend to be pretty soppy and unoriginal so I thought I’d compile a little TOP 5 list of alternative gift ideas for girlfriends that are a bit more interesting than a box of chocolates or a giant teddy.
Speckled Wood_Seaflower

1. Sea Flower Artwork by Speckled Wood (available from Nineteen) £50 – This framed laser etched artwork is really beautiful, and very inexpensive for a piece of original art. I love the subtle variations of tone, this would make a wonderful present if you’re looking to spend a little more this year.
Mirdinara Kitchen_Red Horse Towel

2. Red Horse Tea Towel by Mirdinara Kitchen – $24 – This marvellous horse tea towel design has a suggested love theme with it’s use of red and floral patterns without being too lovey dovey.
Vase 3_Karen Blach Nielson

3. Vase 3 by Karin Blach Nielson (available from Stilleben) DKK. 650,00 – If you’re thinking of buying her flowers why not get her a vase to put them in – something that will last much longer and look beautiful even without flowers in it! This handmade stone vase is one of a kind but there’s a stunning selection of others on the Stilleben website.

iPhone Case_Pelham Goods

4. Litoral Central iPhone Case by Pelham Goods on Etsy £16.95 – Why not go for something a bit more modern and useful! This Etsy shop has a whole array of great phone case designs. I love these cute cacti with pinches of red and pink for a Valentinesy feel.

Rifle Paper Co._Notebooks

5. Everyday Gold Foil Set of Pocket Notebooks by Rifle Paper Co. (available from MoonKo) £8.75 – Or even more useful, there’s always something I could do with an extra notebook for and I’m sure I’m not the only girl that loves to use a notebook that looks pretty on the outside. These foil embossed mini books would make a lovely cute and simple gift for girls who like to keep organised!
